Zacharias Papadas (1876 – May 8, 1907)

From the village of Platanaki in Arcadia, the Peloponnese, he was a Greek Military Officer and Macedonian Fighter during the Macedonian Struggle of (1904-08).

Known under the pseudonym Kapetan Foufas, Papadas operated mainly throughout the towns and villages of western Macedonia and participated and lead many fellow Greeks into multiple missions and battles throughout the region.

In his first tour he was based in and around the villages of the Florina area, pushing back Turkish and Bulgarian forces.

During his second tour in the Kozani region, he was killed by Bulgarian Komitatzides near the town of Palaiochori near Ptolemaida, the town was renamed Foufas in his honour in 1932.

The Greek Football Club near Kozani in Macedonia, Makedonikos Foufas, is also named in his honour.
