WE BOTH DIED AT THE END
CHAPTER 20 (WORDLESS)
FINAL CHAPTER?
I turned and looked at Kate as she briskly entered the meeting hall. She stood beside me and then smiled but I wasn’t convinced because I had no idea why she of all people would forsake me on a day like this.
But then, I noticed something. Suzan was making faces at Kate but Kate wasn’t responding to her and then I remembered what the caller told me the other day.
“Be careful of Kate, she is everything you don’t want right now”
That was what I was told by the Caller and then I realized that I’d been fooled.
Kate didn’t come close to me because she wanted to help me. She came close to me because she was together with Suzan already.
I’d been fooled! What was I thinking? What have I ever done to them to deserve this treatment? I kept looking at Kate and was wishing I had a knife or gun, I would have killed both of then for making me go through this pain.
It was then I understood what my parents told me regarding friends in school. Friends in school is a BAD IDEA!
Kate looked at everyone and then she cleared her throat.
“What is it young lady?” The lecturer asked
“Sir, I have a confession to make” Kate said while my heart began to beat very fast, so fast that the next person close to my would be able to hear it.
“What confession is that?” The lecturer asked
Kate turned and looked at Suzan and then she looked at the old man while both of them were making different faces at her.
The whole scene was becoming a shocking thing to me.
“Sir, everything that was said against Precious here is a BIG LIE”
“What?” The VC said
“Yes, Sir! It was and is all a lie”
The old man got up.
“So you mean an old man like me will come sit down here to lie?”
“Well, I know you brought your doctored evidence but then I have an authentic evidence but before then, I was the one that Suzan employed to keep tabs on Precious. (She turned and looked at me) I was the one that gave Suzan information on Precious best food and other things (It was then it dawned on me. No wonder Suzan met me at the restaurant the first time we met and was talking about my favourite food)
I was the one that selected the clothes Suzan should buy for both of them in the Mall (It was then I also remembered how Suzan was just too close to the lady at the Mall not knowing that lady was Kate)
I was the one that brought those two guys to come over to the hostel to lay complain against Precious. I was doing all the side and dirty works for her and last but not the least, I was the one that helped the man that killed Suzan’s room mate to escape and it was Suzan that brought the man because she needed her friends body parts”
“Jesus!….” The whole people chorused
Kate began to cry. So, it was Suzan that was behind the death of her own room mate? I couldn’t even believe anything any more. Everybody was shocked.
“The evidence they brought was edited. It wasn’t real (we all turned and was looking at Suzan and the old man but their head was down) they staged it and edited it. Suzan called me this morning to the old man’s house and we talked about it”
“You don’t have any evidence because you are just spitting out jargons” Suzan shouted
Kate looked at Suzan, shakes her head and came down to me.
“I’m sorry Precious but I didn’t tell you anything because I wanted to follow them to the end so that I would have evidence”
She got up and gave the lecturer her phone which was connected to the system and then we were able to hear everything they’ve been planning, EVERYTHING.
We all couldn’t believe what we heard.
“This is all a lie and I’m sure it was edited just to discredit our evidence” Suzan said
“Oh, you think so? Well”
Kate gave the lecturer a disc and then we watched how everything was staged and U almost fainted. The old man stood up and wanted to flee but the VC stopped him and told him that the police was waiting outside already and he shouldn’t waste his time because the plan was for them to come carry Precious.
And so, the Police entered and handcuffed Suzan and the Old man while both of them we pouring put curses upon Precious and Kate.
I couldn’t understand what I was feeling, whether it was happiness because I was free at last or sadness because of what I’d gone through for nothing.
I got up and then the VC apologized, Kate also apologized. We hugged and then we left the hall. While we got to the big tree at the middle of the school, a car quickly reversed in front of us and then I heard gun shots.
They’ve shot I and Kate. I was lying down helpless on the floor while my parents and other students gathered around us and were finding ways to help us.
Little by little my sight began to go deem and then I switched off. Yea, I was dead (I guess).

“She is stable now”
“What about the other girl?”
“She is stable too”
Those were the words I heard faintly and then little by little, I opened my eyes just to see myself on the hospital bed and beside my bed was Kate on a bed too.
“I think I am still alive” I said slowly
My Mother turned and went to hug me.
“I think I am alive too” Kate said
My Mother went and hugged her too
“Oh! Thank God!” My Mother said
“I thought we were dead”
“No baby, you both are alive but had been in a comma for two months now”
“Two months?” Kate asked
“Yes, two months”
“Mom, what happened to Suzan?”
“Hmmm.. Suzan is in the prison with the old man. They were further investigated and a lot of dark situations came up around them”
“Aaah, that girl was truly a bad friend” I said
“She is indeed a bad influence” Kate said
The doctor came around and examined us. The moment he left, my mother sad between us and kept thanking God.
I promised her that I will never have friends in school again and I will aways be wise around people.
“Good friends are ok but you must put limit to what you can do and what you cannot do. Just make sure you do what took you to school. Study hard, get your result and build a life for yourself. Going up and down getting friends in school is not the reason why you both were sent to school. Please try and always stay away from troubles. Attend all lectures, do your assignments, study your books. Don’t follow students who are not serious with their studies and lastly do not forget that your family is counting on you”
“Yes Ma” we chorused.
