UTURU WARRIORS AS THE SAVIOUR OF THE NKPORO PEOPLE

UTURU WARRIORS AS THE SAVIOUR OF THE NKPORO PEOPLE
…………………………………………………………………

A retired Professor of Political Science in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Obasi Igwe, in his account of the history of the Nkporo People, paid tribute to Uturu as the savior of the Nkporo People. According to his historical account, in 1650 AD when the Ibibios invaded and occupied Nkporo in to-days Ohafia LGA of Abia State, Nkporo elders and refugees ran to Uturu and appealed to the Uturu People to come and help them recover their homeland. Uturu native warriors and medicine men moved in response to this appeal.

After 2 weeks of non-stop heavy rain fall followed by well co-ordinated attacks, the Ibibios were driven out of Nkporo. The Uturu warriors and rain makers (obviously the Amanvo people) came back home as heroes.
