The Purma Hunting Festival of Donga.
From time, at the end of every rainy season the chamba people of Donga observed the Purma hunting Festival. The festival depict the hunt tactics, art and bravery among the chamba youth and more….as they also use the festive as a medium to teach their young generation the art of warfare.
The word “Purma” means gras; while among the Hausa speaking people it is known as “Takaciyawa”.
At the opening of these event the “Gara” (King) bless every warrior handing over leadership of the hunt to “Gamgum” (Leader of the hunt) as he sit in a hut at the hunting forest, waiting for he whom comes with they highest kill. They Festival ends with they blessings from the Gara.
