The portraits of Anne Boleyn at Hever Castle
The 16th Century ‘Hever Rose’ Portrait is one of the most famous paintings of Anne Boleyn.
The treasured painting hangs on the wall of the Long Gallery in Hever Castle, Kent.
Presumed to have been created during her daughter Elizabeth’s reign, the portrait depicts Anne holding a red rose.
The other portrait is ‘Anne Bullen’ after Holbein.
It’s a more romanticised 18th century image of Anne.
She is not wearing her trademark French hood, but an English gable hood.
She is also not wearing her famous ‘B’ necklace.
The portrait was purchased by William Waldorf Astor, after he bought the castle in 1903.
It was a real privilege to be able to view these in person, especially the Hever Rose portrait
