THE OLD SEAMSTRESS AND OLD THE POTTER

THE OLD SEAMSTRESS AND OLD THE POTTER
A Short Moral Story.

An old seamstress and an old potter lived very close to each other. Both women were in their eighties, but still work very hard.

One day, the old seamstress realized that her duck had started laying eggs, but she had no idea where it was laying. She searched the compound from one end to another, but found nothing.

Meanwhile, the old potter just discovered a bunch of duck eggs in a bush in her yard. The seamstress’s duck was making it’s way to her yard and laying an egg each day.

When the old seamstress found out about it, she walked into the old potter’s yard to collect her eggs, but the potter stopped her.

“I’m sorry, you can’t collect my eggs” the potter said abruptly.

The old seamstress looked puzzled for a moment, then whistled.

“But it was my duck which laid the eggs. How do they belong to you?”

The old potter shook her head and spelt out.

“Well, the eggs were laid on my property, so they should be mine. You own the duck, but you don’t own the eggs”

The seamstress paused for a moment, then asked doubtfully.

“You can’t be serious?”

The potter remarked.

“Well, I am. Next time, show your duck where to lay it’s eggs, otherwise you won’t have any claims over them. As for these, they are mine”

At that moment, the old potter gathered all the eggs into a basket and walked into her house, leaving the seamstress standing there. She was totally taken aback by the potter’s attitude.

Two years later, the old potter’s dog had gone into the old seamstress’s backyard and delivered a litter of eight healthy puppies. After days of searching for her pregnant dog, the old potter discovered where it had delivered.

However, when she went to the seamstress’s yard to collect her puppies, the seamstress stopped her without hesitation.

“Excuse me, you can’t touch my pups. You have no right over them. They belong to me” she said.

With a perplexed look on her face, the potter mumbled.

“What do you mean? It was my dog which gave birth to them, so they belong to me”

The seamstress scoffed and said.

“Well, for your information, those pups were delivered on my property, so they are mine. You own the dog, but I own the pups”.

The potter whispered after a moment of silence.

“Ok, let’s share them equally. You have yours and I have mine”.

The seamstress shook her head abruptly and snapped.

“No way… I’m getting all the pups because they were delivered on my property. I’m sorry, but you aren’t getting any share in this”.

Moral Lesson: Be kind, be fair, be considerate and be true, and all of these things will come back to you. Always remember, what goes around, comes around.
