? For more than one hundred years, this structure was the Williamson County Jail.

Behind these imposing walls were held some of the worst of the criminals ever captured in the region.

From outlaws to murderers, to some of the worst serial killers the country had ever seen.

? A place of brutality and exEcutions, it was an imposing monolith of Texas justice for a century before its closure.

Because of frequent jail breaks, the old jail was closed in October 1888, and the prisoners moved.

? Tom Young was the last man hanged in Williamson County, and spent his final days at Old Williamson County Jail.

Folks in Georgetown still tell the legend of his cruel and heinous crime.

Tom brutally murdered his twelve-year-old niece, Alma Reece, and on his hanging day, newspapers reported that thousands gathered in Williamson County to watch him hang.

? Then we have everyone’s favorite boastful serial killer, Henry Lee Lucas.
Henry Lee sat behind the bars of Williamson County Jail.

Lucas claimed the murders of 35 people, but he later added a few hundred more to that kill tally, over the course of twenty years.

? Save for its frighteningly strong shell, it’s the kind of place that should no longer hold any power aside from historical curiosity, but there are those that say it isn’t as empty as it looks….

There are whispers that this relic of Texas judicial history still holds ghosts of the past, some of whom may not be entirely happy at having met their ends at the hands of the hangman’s noose.

Many of those that spent their days behind these bars are still haunting the Old Williamson County Jail today….
