He finds it amusing to hear that the Nollywood industry, led by Emeka Rolax, is planning to organize prayers over deaths. He’s not against prayers, but he suggests that they should prioritize putting things in place before organizing prayers. Hollywood didn’t become the biggest movie industry through prayers; how can Nollywood lack basic infrastructure like first aid, ambulances, or rescue teams for emergencies?
While prayers are being organized for deaths in the industry, aged members who are sick and unable to act are not receiving assistance. There’s no health or life insurance for them. Before the deaths of Mr. Ibu and Amaechi Mounagor, they were sick for years, but the industry couldn’t assist with their hospital bills. The deaths of Junior Pope and four others were due to accidents and irresponsibility. How can mature men be on a boat without life jackets?
As far as he’s concerned, there’s no evil in the Nollywood industry; people die like in any other profession, but the difference is they are public figures. It’s time to face reality and put things in order. If the association doesn’t have funds, they should seek assistance from the federal government or wealthy individuals.
They can go ahead with the prayers, but it’s important to realize that Nollywood isn’t flawed, and prayers aren’t the solution. What’s needed is to address the lack of infrastructure and organization.
