Lady Jane Grey’s ghost & The Whittington Inn – Kinver, Stourbridge UK
The original Whittington Inn, dates back to 1310 and it comes as no surprise to discover that the present building is haunted.
Prior to becoming an inn in the 18th century, it was the manor house of the De Whittington family of the Dick Whittingham fame.
One of the ghosts seen here is that of a monk who may have hidden in one of the priest holes in the building.
The other significant ghost, is that of The nine day queen~Lady Jane Grey.
Jane was the great-granddaughter of Henry VII through his younger daughter Mary.
Jane was b~headed for treason on Tower Green, on 12th February 1554, she was just 16/17 years old.
Jane is thought to have stayed in the original manor house, when she was younger.
Her apparition is seen dressed in a long flowing gown.
Although she has been seen in various parts of the inn, she is well known locally for sweeping down the staircase into the main bar, before disappearing.
A headless lady is said to haunt the upper halls, could this also be Jane?
Another spectre at The Whittington Inn, is a ghost who enjoys scaring the bejaysus out of various guests.
He does this by wrapping his cold, dead hands around their necks while they sleep…….
