Ilias Kountouras (1882 – December 21, 1908)

From Vlasti, Kozani, Macedonia, he was a Macedonian Fighter and Captain during the Macedonian Struggle (1904-08).

He went to Athens to study Law at the University of Athens. In 1905 he interrupted his studies so he could return to Macedonia to join in the struggle for Macedonia’s Liberation.

Under the pseudonym Kapetan Farmakis and after serving in various bands, he soon formed his own armed force, to fight the Bulgarian Komitatzi and he was successful in battle, defeating and killing many Bulgarians.

At the cessation of hostilities he returned to Athens to continue his studies. But on his return to Macedonia in late 1908, he was assassinated.
