How Abia Airport Funds Were Shared – Alex C. Otti
“He (the Managing Director of Ferotex) showed us letters from the then government instructing the transfer of funds in different tranches to 32 companies, which he did as per the former government’s instructions.
“The statement and report will be published soon. As reported by the media, KPMG conducted the forensic audit.
“In the bank statement on September 26, 2020, amidst the Covid pandemic, a debit of 10 billion Naira went into the state account, purportedly for an 80 percent contract of the Abia airport.”
“I personally met with the managing director of Foretex company, who showed me all the documents and the 32 accounts where the money was sent. He mentioned he never applied for the job but was compelled to build the airport. They transferred ₦10 billion to our account, which we then transferred to the accounts they provided.”
“Otti continued, stating that while the former government doesn’t deny the money, they claim to have diverted it to other projects and roads. Thus, we’re requesting them to show us the roads and projects they used the money for.”
“Governor Alex Otti also emphasized his focus on recovering the N10 billion allocated for the Abia airport project rather than seeking prosecution. He reassured the people of Abia that he’s solely interested in recovering their money. Otti made this statement during his monthly media briefing with the people of Abia, highlighting his commitment to accountability and fund recovery.
