HIGH SCHOOL GAME (SEASON 1) CHAPTER 16

HIGH SCHOOL GAME (SEASON 1)

CHAPTER 16

Days had gone fast enough. It felt like it was yesterday Jason had stepped his foot at G.S. Central High School and it was time for his first exams.

The school was noisy, students moving around from library to class. Some to the staff office. He sluggishly walked to the class room. The first person he saw was Star, she was looking worried and nervous. He felt terrible seeing her that way, he wished he never listened to his friends.

“How can I even make it up to her” Jason muttered as he walked to his desk with his timetable and then he lay his head on his desk.

Emily walked into the class with two printed exam timetables in her hand. She drop one in front of me, but I was too lost to even notice Emily’s presence.

“Star, are ok?” Emily asked as she tapped me

“Yeah Emily, don’t worry I’m fine” I assured her

She took the timetable and drop it in my bag. Emily noticed how moody I was and then she tried to cheer me up but her effort was to no avail.

Later in the night, I took my books and made my way to the dining table. I sat down on one of the chairs and kept my books on the table and then I brought out my physics textbook and opened it, but I just kept on flapping pages.

My mind was heavy, wondering who that strange man was. “Why is he after me? Why am I the only one that can see him? Who is he? What does he want?” I kept throwing questions on myself. Questions that no one could answer. I kept looking at the book in front of me like a picture. I breathe out heavily and closed the book.

It was morning, I woke up late but found my Dad, Mom and brother at the dining having their breakfast, my Dad was rushing to finish his food when I walked to him and greeted.

“Good morning Daddy!”

“Morning sugar! How was your night?” my Dad asked and then I went close and pecked him on his cheek

“It was fine Dad”

“I got an information on the parent’s platform from your school that you are starting exams in three days time.” My Dad said

“Yes Dad” I replied

“Hope you are ready? Because I want you to try your best. You will get a gift if you do well to make us proud” He said as he played with my hair

“Really Dad?”

“Yes baby, you have just one job to do; make us proud.” He said while smiling and his hand was still on my hair.

“I will Dad. I have to go, because I have a lot to do in school. Bye Mom, bye Ryo.” I bade them goodbye as I walked out. I decided within myself to work hard.

“A strange man cannot make me fail my exams and make my parent disappointed. I promised them to work hard and that is what I will do” I encouraged myself.

It was finally Time for exams. I was all-ready to face it once and for all. I walked into the class with all boldness and fresh spirit, took my seat. I could tell that Jason was looking at me with a sorry-looking face but I ignored his looks. His friends where looking at me but I gave them a deadly glare. Emily came in and sat closed to me.

It was Biology Exams, Mr. Hunt the Biology teacher came in with his question papers. He strictly warned us not to cheat. I took my paper bent my head and then I started attempting the questions. Luckily for me, I’d read very well last night.

I was done within 30mins, everyone began looking at me as if I was committing an abomination by submitting my papers much earlier. Mr. Hunt collected my paper and then he asked me to help watch out for him for a while, while he goes to check up on what I don’t know.

I stood in front of the class room. Jason was having a hard time trying to answer some questions, while his funny looking friend Chain, was stretching his head like an ostrich, and swinging side to side.

He looks funny, I tried holding my laugh but I ended up laughing hard all the students look up but luckily for me, Mr. Hunt came back much earlier than I’d expected.

We finished the exams for that day and all the students were given the chance to go home much earlier than normal. I decided to hangout a little bit with Emily. Hanging out wasn’t my kind of thing but I’d become a teenager and had to learn to do things that normal teenagers do. We both decided to visit an event center where some funny looking people were busy playing games and doing a lot of other things.

We both stood there for a while, then we decided to join the games. While the organizers of the games decided to arrange the game players in pairs, I thought I saw a familiar face. I turned towards my left hand side but guess what or who I saw? It was that strange man, looking at me with a sheepish kind of laughter.

Fear gripped me, I wanted to tell Emily but I changed my mind when I remembered that it was only me that can see the strange man. He came closer to me in a flash and said;

“After this game, be prepared for an even greater games in school” he smiled and before I could say ‘jack’ he was nowhere to be found.

I scanned through the crowd with my eyes but couldn’t find him.

“Star what or who are you looking for?” Emily asked as she noticed what I was doing.

“Nothing, no one. It’s just amazing how people gathered here, mostly for games” I covered up

“Yea, you are right” Emily said as she turned towards the game we were about to play.

Though I was playing the game but my mind was not with me. I didn’t seem to understand why the strange man kept appearing to only me and no one else.

We finally ended the games, Emily noticed how changed my mood was but she kept her questions to herself. We walked back to our separate houses without much talk because I wasn’t ready to talk, as Emily was also busy with her own thoughts
.
“Who is he? Why does he keep appearing to me? What does he mean by ‘ be prepared for an even greater games in school?” I asked myself as my thoughts kept going wide.
