Grigoris Liakatas (1795 – February 26, 1826)
From Kleinovos, a village in north-western Thessaly, he was an armatolos and fighter during the Greek Revolution of 1821.
In 1821 he joined the force of Nikolaos Stournaris and became one of the leaders of the Greek Revolution in western Thessaly.
Liakatas, for his actions against the Turks in Thessaly and in order to avoid capture by them, travelled south to join in the Greek defence of Messolonghi.
It was fighting in Messolonghi, where Liakatas would meet his eventual demise. During a skirmish, he was wounded in the face and in the process, lost one of his eyes.
Continuing to fight, he continued defend during the 3rd Siege of Messolonghi, where he heroically fell in February 1826.
