ESAN SPIRITUALITY & RELIGION

Esan people were polyetheists, believing in the gods of the things in their environment.

For example, they believed in the god of earth, god of iron, god of medicine, god of fruition, god of trees, ancestral worship and hero worship.

Similarly, the Esans believed in a supreme God. Omnipotent and perfectly just, without whose blessings none of the requests to any of the lesser gods could be granted.

This Almighty they called OSENOBULUA or OGHENAN. He was accorded no particular form of worship. Had no particular shrine or edifies for veneration in most places, but his name was on the lips of all.
