CONFESSION OF AN ANCIENT RULER
My name is Owodo, an Ogiso, a title held by the ancient rulers of the Ìgòdòmìgòdò land, now known as Ibini, Bini, or Benin. I feel compelled to share some truths to uphold the honor associated with my name.
Firstly, I must clarify that I departed this world without leaving behind any children, contrary to the falsehoods circulating widely today. These fabrications disrupt my eternal peace as my name is invoked in struggles for supremacy that I have no part in.
Secondly, I want to dispel any notions associating me with individuals bearing names like Ekaladehan or Izoduwa, or any other concocted identities. As I mentioned earlier, I left no heirs, but I had made arrangements for my brother to succeed me on the throne. What unfolded afterward remains unknown to me.
Thirdly, I wish to acknowledge the ancient civilization of Ifẹ, referred to as Uhe in our kingdom. The people of Ifẹ̀ were not then known as Yòrùbá but as Uhe people. We held them in high esteem and shared many cultural similarities and mutual respect.
Lastly, I implore those spreading baseless tales about me to cease their actions so that I may find peace in the afterlife and my descendants can thrive. My lineage is now known as Ogiamien, and I hope this revelation brings clarity and peace to all concerned parties.
Thank you for allowing me to share these truths in honor of my name and legacy.
