CHIEF OKOCHA JOINS OTHER RIVERS LEADERS ON A HIGH-POWER SOLIDARITY PROTEST AGAINST THE UNCAGED TYRANNY OF GOV. FUBARA TO MEMBERS OF RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
It was a mother of all protests today, as the CTC Chairman/Leader of APC in Rivers State, Chief Tony C Okocha KSC JP DSSRS, joined other Rivers State leaders on a solidarity visit to the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The visit, which was in solidarity with the Speaker and other Members of the State Assembly, against the wanton harassments and threats to their lives by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, witnessed an unprecedented huge turnout of Rivers State leaders, cutting across party lines, among whom are the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. O K Chinda, Hon. Igo Aguma, Senator Olaka Wogu, former Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani, Local Government Chairmen, Commissioners, and numerous other distinguished leaders of Rivers State.
The protest is coming on the heels of the attempt by Governor Fubara to demolish the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters, a newly constructed standard structure, which is just two years old, out of a projected lifespan of about 30 years.
Recall that some months ago, the Governor demolished the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, all in a bid to prevent the State Assembly from carrying out their legitimate functions. This ill-advised action of the Governor triggered strong resistance from Rivers leaders, who decided to march to the Assembly in solidarity with the Assembly Members.
Addressing the Press at the venue of the event, the Rivers APC Boss, Chief Tony C Okocha, vowed that Rivers State APC will do everything within its power to protect the 27 members of the State Assembly who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), against the tyranny of Gov. Sim Fubara.
“You can see how Rivers Leaders thronged out in their numbers, unbargained, unplanned, to visit the Assembly quarters. It goes to show the world that Rivers State is one that is united. The Speaker has taken his stand to continue to carry out his legitimate functions and has given us a synopsis of what transpired when Governor Sim Fubara, in his gustavo and commando style, with thugs, harassed the Assembly Members,” Okocha fired.
Speaking further, Chief Okocha posited, “Leaders have spoken as leaders of the state. I want to narrow it down to the party (APC). 27 of the members of the State Assembly are our property, and we owe them a responsibility to do everything to protect them.
“At every twist and turn, Gov. Fubara, who is the chief lawbreaker of the state, will come out publicly claiming to be supporting Mr. President, in a bid to continue to curry political patronage and capital. It is not true; it is a fluke! They want to latch onto the back of the President to continue to engage in their illegality. They claim to have voted for President Tinubu in the last election, but the record shows that Gov. Fubara voted against Mr. President. The same Fubara is the one funding people to go to court to challenge the President’s authority,” the APC stressed.
Chief Okocha frowned at the attempt by the Governor to emasculate the Legislature Arm by proclaiming what he calls an Executive Order to bring the Assembly to the government House, thereby fusing the legislative and the Executive arm into one.
Chief Okocha warned that Rivers State APC will resist such illegal action of the Governor with the last drop of their blood.
