Bello: We Met Over 30 Policemen Even Though I Went With Over 50 Gallant Men, We’d Have Exchanged Fire — Olukoyede
Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has spoken on the mild drama that took place when his men went to former Governor Yahaya Bello’s house to arrest him and were resisted.
In a video recently shared on YouTube by Channels TV, Olukoyede revealed that when EFCC agents attempted to arrest Bello, they encountered over 30 armed policemen on the premises. He said despite having armed EFCC agents, totaling over 50, he decided against engaging in a firefight to avoid casualties. He said while some criticized the EFCC for not forcefully entering the house, such actions could have led to the loss of lives of policemen.
Olukoyede said engaging in a gunfight with other service members during the attempted arrest of Bello was not the right course of action and he would not have obeyed order from anybody to take such actions.
In Olukoyede’s words: “We met over 30 policemen, I went with over 50 gallant men, we would have exchanged fire. But if we had done it, there would have been casualties. That is what some people are condemning us for, they said ‘Why didn’t you break down the house?”.
