Anambra State House of Assembly Introduces Bill to Revive Igbo Apprenticeship System
Anambra State House of Assembly is taking steps to revitalise and regulate the Igbo Apprenticeship System, commonly known as Igba Boi, with the introduction of the Anambra State Igbo Apprenticeship Bill 2024. The bill, which was presented for its first reading at the plenary session, aims to establish a framework for the oversight and regulation of apprenticeship schemes in the state.
One of the key aims of the bill is to create a database of individuals interested in participating in apprenticeship programs within the state. This database will help in ensuring proper regulation and monitoring of the system. Additionally, the bill seeks to provide a platform for resolving any disputes that may arise between parties involved in apprenticeship contracts.

The decline in the popularity of the Igba Boi system in recent years can be attributed to various factors, including unresolved disputes and allegations from employers against apprentices. It also outlines the roles and responsibilities of parents, guardians, and the courts in resolving disputes.
