Adaora Umeoji from Aguata in Anambra state, appointed as the first female GMD/CEO of Zenith Bank
Zenith Bank Plc has named Dr. Adaora Umeoji, a seasoned banker, as its new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, making her the first woman to hold the position in the bank’s history.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the company secretary, Michael Otu, and submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited.
Umeoji’s appointment will become effective on June 1, 2024, following the exit of the current GMD, Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, on May 31, 2024.
Described as a trailblazer, Umeoji’s selection aligns with Zenith Bank’s commitment to grooming future leaders from within its ranks, as stated in the statement.
Prior to this role, Umeoji had served as the bank’s Deputy Managing Director starting from October 28, 2016, bringing with her close to three decades of banking experience, with the majority of it being at Zenith Bank.
Her educational background includes prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School, University of Jos, Baze University in Abuja, University of Salford in the UK, University of Calabar, and Apollos University in the USA.
Umeoji is also a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management and has attended a number of management programs in universities worldwide, emphasizing her commitment to continuous learning and growth.
