WE BOTH DIED AT THE END
CHAPTER 15 (THE COUNTER PLAN)
Suzan put one of the clothes carrying my name in a bag and left to the old man’s house that very night.
She had to knock three times before he came to open the door.
“Suzan, what are you doing here this night?”
“Baba, can’t I come in first?”
“Yes, you can! Please come in”
He gave her way as she entered and sat down and then he also sat opposite her.
“What is it Suzan?”
“Baba, I couldn’t rest. I went home and found that she had packed her things but didn’t go with the dresses I bought for her in which she customized her name on. While holding one of the dresses, a thought came to me”
“What thought?”
“Baba, hope you remember that we are to meet with the VC and other leaders tomorrow and they may want a concrete evidence or proof to show that I am innocent and….”
The baba started to laugh.
“Baba, what’s funny?”
“Nothing dear! I just find it funny, the fact that even before you finish speaking I knew where you were going”
“Really?”
“Yes my daughter. I know your plans”
“If you know, then tell me”
“You want to use her dress to nail her by wearing the dress and then pretending to be her while we make a video right?”
“Wow! Baba, you are a genius! How did you figure that out?”
“Don’t forget that I am an old man and I’d seen a lot in this life.”
“I’m happy I don’t have to explain further but my problem now is that we are late already”
Suzan made a sad face.
“Don’t worry my daughter, we are not late. I will call the others and then we shall all act a perfect drama so that you can use it tomorrow against her”
“Thank you Baba!”

“This whole thing is a fresh surprise to me. Like you mean Suzan could actually do this kind of thing to me?”
“Well, sorry to say this but it’s all your fault. I warned you but you didn’t listen”
“You can say that again. I regretted not seeing the truth even before now but wait, how were you able to know that Suzan isn’t a good person?”
“Hmmm… I’d seen the kind of people she mingle with, the kind of people she do business with and also she slander you a lot when she is with her people. You see those clothes she bought for you, it was all part of the plan to drag you into this mess because she always drag her roommates into different kinds of ugly situations”
“How did you know?”
“I know because I overheard her telling one of her friends that she had a good reason why she bought you the same clothes as hers and then I was also there when she was thanking God that you customized your dresses with your name and that really favoured her and made her work much easier”
“Wow and why didn’t you just tell me all these while. You kept speaking in parables to me all these while.”
“I’m sorry Precious but you should be thankful that I even told you something. Naturally, I don’t do busybody. I don’t go around doing what doesn’t concern me but I don’t know why I couldn’t keep myself from a hint”
“Wow, I’ve really suffered and tomorrow is the meeting. What do I do?”
“Right now, let’s not think about it. We haven’t eaten this night yet and so let us eat first and then we shall ponder upon what to do or not do ok?”
But I was quiet, thinking deep about how my life may change the next morning if something favourable does not happen.
Kate was quick with the food. Looking down at it, I discovered she had cooked it already and was just warming it and guess what? It was my favourite dish.
Lately, I couldn’t cook it because of too much stress.
“Don’t mind me. I figured this would be your favourite dish and so I cooked it today with the intention to invite you over before we met today”
“How did you know that it was my favourite dish?”
“I overheard it from Suzan one time like that”
“I guess everything about me or Suzan you overheard it” I laughed
I’m happy you are laughing but not everything sha. Come on dig in! I thank her and then we began to it. I didn’t know when I requested for two more plates because it was by then I realized that I’d not eating since morning.
We finished and indeed I was full.
“Now, we need to pray extensively because at this juncture, only God in heaven can pull us out of this mess we’ve entered”
“Wait, I’m sorry to ask but why the ‘ us’? Why are you putting yourself in this mess?”
Kate smiled and held my hand.
“Well, we are in this together. Moreover, I am now your only witness and I may not be enough. No, I am not even enough and that’s why we need to involve God because if we have God on our side, we have victory already”
I looked into her eyes and then I began to wonder why I haven’t become friends with her all these while I was with Suzan.
“Thank you so much Kate. May God bless you for me”
“Amen!”
And so we prayed extensively. So much prayers that I knew I had not done that kind of prayers before. We finished and we all went to bed with one thing in mind; that God in heaven will give us victory tomorrow. We don’t know how that will happen, seeing that we have a lot of witnesses against us but let God be God.
