CHAPTER ONE: A DARK CHRISTMAS EVE

The bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria, was alive with the vibrant energy of Christmas. Colorful decorations adorned the streets, and the air was filled with the joyful sounds of laughter and music. But amidst the celebration, a sinister presence loomed, ready to shatter the holiday cheer.

In the heart of Lagos Island, a young woman named Ada stepped out of her apartment, her breath visible in the cold night air. She wrapped her coat tightly around her, attempting to shield herself from the biting wind that carried a hint of impending doom.

Unknowingly to her, a predator lurked in the shadows, watching her every move.

Realizing she’s being watched she fastened her steps gradually as fear tormented her. “SNAP” she heard a sound and then screamed at the top of her lungs as tears dropped down her cheeks “Biko no kill me” she said stammering as terror stole her words.

Looking behind her she perceived no one was behind her and took to her heels.

“Huh-Phoo” “Huh-Huh” “Phoo-Phoo” she panted as she ran along the stranded alley with faintly decorated lights. She made her way through the alley into the crowded streets, her footsteps echoed in sync with her racing heart. The scent of roasted corn and spicy jollof rice filled the air, momentarily distracting her from the unease that coiled her gut. But she couldn’t shake of the feeling that she was being followed, that invisible eye traced her every step.

A sudden commotion erupted nearby, drawing her attention. She turned her gaze falling upon a chaotic scene, she gasped with terror and fear overwhelming her as she froze in horror. Two motorcycles collided with a sickening thud, sending the riders flying through the air like rag dolls. The metallic tang of blood permeated the atmosphere mingling with the cries of pain and gasps of horrified onlookers, Ada was frightened down to the soles of her shoes as the riders descended with one of the rider’s head shattered on the cold floor in the aftermath of the accident blood splattered all over the scene explicitly showing his brain through his broken skull as he lays down lifelessly on the cold ground.

The victim’s eyes were lingering out his sockets staring into nothingness. The atmosphere reeks of death and despair, the stench of blood and violence loitering the air.

Ada’s heart pounded in her chest as she rushed towards the scene, compelled to offer help to the other victim. But amidst the chaos she caught the glimpse of a figure standing at the periphery, their eyes cold and devoid of empathy. It was a man! Tall and imposing, his presence radiates an unusual unsettling aura, sending shivers down her spine. A wicked smile curled on his lips, hidden beneath a neatly trimmed beard. Panic rushed through her veins as he screamed at her to flee. She took away her gaze from the enigmatic figure and fled. But as she glanced back, the man vanished into the crowds, leaving behind an eerie sense. Attempting to continue fleeing she felt a slit, brush through her neck skin slicing through her guts as an uneasy presence walked by her. Ada found it hard to breath gasping for air she touched her neck and sensed a sticky fluid flowing out, looking at her fingers was blood. A bolt of panic hit her, terror streaked through her, her eyes darted from left to right, her eyes were wild with terror as her mouth was open in a silent scream. A nameless dread engulfed her, looking back at the presence she felt she noticed the man slowly walking away grinning and laughing happily, and thought to her self. “This creature might or may not have a name but one thing is true — death followed its every step. her body felt numb as she slowly lost consciousness and fell hardly on the icy floor her eyes lifelessly staring blankly, then she knew what real terror was.
