Combat Armour of Philip II of Spain

This armour for mounted combat, was made for Philip II of Spain, by Desiderius Helmschmid, Augsburg, circa 1544.

Philip was the husband of Mary I of England.
With her death, Philip lost his rights to the English throne, and ceased to be King of England.

The armour is on display at the annex of the Kunsthistoriches Museum in Vienna.
