The South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) says it has seized thousands of firearms from unauthorized individual in the country’s capital, Juba within the week.
The Director for Media and Press and SSPDF Spokesman, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai, revealed on Thursday ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations that the operation had paid off.
He said he believes that the “collection of such illegal firearms would make this year’s Christmas the safest ever.”
“Weapons collected and displayed included 12.7mm RPGs, PKMs, assault rifles such as AKM-.47, G3s, pistols, crude guns like machetes, pangas, bows and arrows, and drugs; bangi and marijuana were collected,” Lul stated.
He praised the Joint Disarmament Forces’ leadership and command for their outstanding performance.
Lul also apologized to everyone who was affected by the exercise.
“A special apology goes to members of the diplomatic corps, UN/NGOs, and other dignitaries for all forms of inconveniences caused.”
