RICH BEGGAR
RICH BEGGAR
~moral story~
Along a busy walkway sat a poor old beggar, clothed in dirty tattered rags, raising hands and pleading with all passersby to help him with anything at all.
He beheld a young man approaching and decided to beg him as usual,
“Please, help me,” He held the man’s hand as he pleaded soberly.
The man turned and yanked off his hand in disdain.
“What nonsense, Don’t you ever again lay your filthy hand on me, Do you want to stain me? Are you the only one with challenges?”
Tears welled up in his eyes as the man yelled at him simply because he slightly held his arm to draw his attention.
“I’m sorry,” He apologized but he just hissed and went his way.
Moments later, he sighted another young man approaching and decided to do his usual,
As he held the man’s hand, he turned and looked into his eyes,
“Please help me,” He pleaded soberly.
The man could not take his eyes off him, his face was turning moody, seeing a very old man under such a scorching sun.
“Sir, actually, I would have happily helped if I had but unfortunately, I don’t, my wife is currently in the hospital bed, waiting for me to return with a N100,000 deposit for the surgery to be started and I don’t even have any money, I’m on my way to the bank to see if they can loan me some money, please bear with me.”
After speaking, the man slowly turned to leave but the beggar also felt for him,
“Come,” He called him back and brought out an envelope, stretching it toward him.
“Take, return to your house, and don’t open it until you’re inside.”
The young man was reluctant to collect the envelope, wondering what a poor beggar could be giving to him, but on second thought, he collected it, thanked him, and headed home, even though he had no idea of what was inside.
When he got home and had gotten inside the house, he opened the envelope and couldn’t believe his eyes,
“Cash of $100,000?” He exclaimed in amazement and raced back to where he saw the beggar, but on getting there, he couldn’t find him again.
However, there was a note on the ground that read,
“A helper can come in the form of a beggar.”
