TSAR PAUL I ~ ST MICHAELS CASTLE
Tsar Paul I, was the son of Catherine the Great and her husband, Tsar Peter III.
Paul lived in his mother’s shadow for his entire life, and even after her death.
He ascended the throne in 1796, and had a fairly rough reign.
Most of Paul’s actions were to reverse or change his mother’s policies.
Unfortunately for him, it didn't sit too well with the Russian Army, or the aristocracy.
Paul was assassinated in 1804 at Saint Michael’s Castle, by several military members.
Legend says, several days before Paul I was murdered, he claimed to have seen blood on the walls of the Mikhailovskiy Castle (St. Michaels Castle)
In the last minutes before his tragic end, a great fleet of crows took flight from the castle roof.
Eerily, this repeats every year on the anniversary of Paul's assassination!
The ghost of Paul I is still wandering around the palace of Saint Michael’s, with a candle in his hands.
The castle’s attendants hear strange noises of parakeets chirping, doors slamming, mysterious footsteps, and other suspicious sounds.
People have even witnessed Paul's portrait move on its own....
