Field hygiene

Vegetables are amongst the crops which are mostly sensitive and affected by the hygiene and surrounding environments. The hygiene starts from seedling production up to final stage of consumption , so it should strictly be observed and maintained throughout.

It can be done through the following ways:

1. Acquiring seeds from a reliable seed company, this will help a farmer to be confident about the next steps.

2. Having the right and clean field which will surely support 100% germination.

3. Field or final bed preparation should follow all right steps of cultivation, allow it to take time like two weeks after cultivation so that the seeds of some weeds can germinate and be removed before transplanting.

4. Raise the beds/ ridges at reasonable height depending on the season you are in.

5. Do blanket mulching before transplanting this will ensure maximum moisture is maintained for crops always and control weeds which in the long run reduces on labor for frequent weeding.

6. Follow the right spacing for the respective crop as it is directed by the officer.

7. Clean the environment around and always maintain at least 2m away from the garden always clean.

8. Follow all other agronomic practices like gap filling, thining, pruning, pest, disease identification and control at the right time.
